With Whitefish as a basecamp, a trip to Glacier National Park is a must! Glacier National Park is only 25 miles from downtown Whitefish. The park has over 1 million acres of wilderness, all located in Montana's Rocky Mountains. While the park is known for amazing glaciers, there are beautiful alpine meadows, pristine lakes and dramatic glacier-carved valleys. Another highlight is the Going-to-the-Sun Road, completed in 1932, that crosses the park, east to west and is generally open from mid-June to mid-October.
If going by foot is more your style, there are over 700 miles of hiking trails. A good place to start is the hike to Hidden Lake. Though a moderate 5.4 mile roundtrip hike, visitors will be rewarded with views of Clements, Bearhat and Reynolds mountains from the lake. Other activities in and around the park include backpacking, cycling and camping. Also, Glacier National Park is home to an incredible array of wildlife. Grizzly bear, moose, mountain goats, wolverines and Canadian lynxes all inhabit the area.

Whitefish Mountain Resort, located just 7 miles from downtown Whitefish is a great adventure destination in winter or summer. With over 3,000 acres of uncrowded terrain, skiers and snowboarders will find great snow. In summer, check out the scenic chairlift rides, Aerial Adventure Park, zip-lines and alpine slides. The mountain is also home to great downhill and cross-country mountain biking.
After days of adventure, a day at the beach can be relaxing. Whitefish City Beach, just 1 mile from downtown, is situated on the south shore of Whitefish Lake. With beautiful views, kayak and SUP rentals, and plenty of sun and sand, there's something for everyone.
